Waugh Thistleton Architects presents an adaptive re-use of a late Victorian building in central London for developer Bywater. The project will involve a comprehensive and sympathetic refurbishment of the existing warehouse at 123 Golden Lane throughout the basement, ground and 5 upper storeys.
The existing top floor, a more recent addition to the Victorian building, will be removed and replaced with two additional floors of new workspaces, constructed using a mix of mass timber products, namely CLT and Glulam.
The design presents a sensitive and considered refurbishment that meets the needs of modern-day occupiers whilst maintaining the character of the existing building. 123 Golden Lane is demonstrative of Bywater’s commitment to low carbon development and refurbishment through its use of sustainable and bio-based materials.
Current ongoing works include the refurbishment of the lower ground floors, the removal of the existing mansard roof and the installation of the Glulam beams and columns and the CLT slabs.
