We worked with the founders of quality food and ethical business Pod to translate their brand ethos into a series of simple and ethically aware high street eateries.
Whilst each outlet has an element of contextual design, all are united by a shared design language, and carefully curated palette of natural and locally sourced materials.
Sweet chestnut is used to create bespoke benches, seating and till units, lending a warm and natural aesthetic, whilst traditional kitchen wall tiles, exposed services and stainless steel finishes lend the spaces a contemporary, industrial edge. The sweet chestnut we used is a sustainable hardwood, coppiced in England, and accredited by the FSA.
Each outlet has an open layout, encouraging informal interaction between customers and staff, and a relaxed seating area for eating in. We also introduced a public facing recycling station to each venue, that provides a bin to dispose of food for composting, a sink to wash out food packaging, and a dedicated recycling bin for rinsed packaging. A bin clearly marked for waste bound for landfill underpins the incentive to recycle. The concept is designed to instil best practice in Pod establishments, and encourage behavioural change industry-wide.
